The safety lever is stamped "(VADIS)"
"VADIS" is the manufacturer's abbreviation for Davis & Brocklesbury, Manchester.

According to the previous owner, this came from a batch of Mills Grenades which were found in Holland in the 1980s. The grenades had been captured by the Germans during WWII and the boxes had been over-painted with German markings.
