Time this went to a new home so price reduced from £225 to £175.00.
Measuring 28cm long and 9cm in diameter, offered for sale here is a WW2 American 20-Pound fragmentation bomb body consisting of the nose and tail forgings which screw onto an inner steel sleeve that contained the bursting charge, surrounded by a tightly wound helix bar of steel which makes the fragmentation pieces. This helix is held in place by the nose and tail forgings. No fuze or tail fin, but all threads good so could be easily fitted if you have them. The tail adapter bushing still retains the grub screw to hold the fin assembly in position. All parts sound and easily screw/unscrew (fifth image). Still has traces of olive green paint on parts of the fragmentation sleeve.
This same body was used in AN-M41 and M42 fragmentation bombs and also the M40 parachute fragmentation bomb where the fin assembly was replaced with a parachute. (Ref: TM9-1904 Ammunition Inspection Guide, March 1944, p652 et seq)
