Inert WW2 German military 7.9mm Beobachtung patrone-v/trop made by DWM Lubeck-Schlutup in 1943. The Beobachtung patrone is an explosive incendiary observing cartridge and was used by the Luftwaffe and by machinegunners. The complicated bullet contained a striker assembly, a tetryl bursting charge and 5gn of white phosphorous. This is the second of two patterns of this cartridge and is identifiable by its bullet which is blackened except for the last 10mm. The green band around the bullet identifies this as being a high velocity load for aircraft use and the black lacquer around the casemouth identifies this as being suitable for tropical use.
The tetryl and phosphorous have been removed from this bullet.
