INERT 75x243R Hohlladungsgranate (Hollow charge) round for the 7.5cm KwK37/StuK37 L/24 and 7.5cm Kanone 51 L/24
Used in the Pzkpfw IV and StuG III, the KwK37 was designed as an infantry support weapon using mainly HE rounds but tank crews were also issued the kinetic K.Gr.rot.Pz (APHE) loading for use in the anti armour role. As tank armour gradually thickened this relatively low velocity projectile became less effective and so the hollow charge (HEAT) projectile was seen as the only way to keep the short barrelled KwK37 effective against enemy armour. Production of 75x243R ammunition was restarted in 1943 with the introduction of the Pzkpw III Ausf.N in the infantry support role.
Projectile retains upwards of 85% of its original finish and stencilling with a crisp AZ38 fuse and gaine. Case still has most of its original wash but has three verticle lines of light corrosion/staining (storage rack marks ?). The case base and C/22 primer are pitted but the headstamp is still readable (see pics.). No holes.
Very scarce round, rarely do these come up for sale.
