Nice example of a WW2 American 20mm Polsten Cannon/Oerlikon HE-Practice round. Brass case measures 20x110RR with the following headstamps: '20MM MK2 1943'. The HE-P projectile is stamped '3-54J LOT 1395 MAT' on the side is empty and is the correct Oerlikon type, having a single copper driving band which is thinner than the wider Hispano type. White metal Mazak nose plug is marked ‘MK-26-1-DD???-P’ and easily screws in and out of the projectile.
Each Oerlikon magazine was required to be loaded with one of these (or a ball round) as the first to be fired to ensure that the barrel cap was blown off by an inert projectile rather than HE shell if the muzzle cap had become frozen in place due to the artic cold or been left on in error before the weapon was fired.
Condition as per images above. Second Class postage to a mainland UK postcode will be £3.50.
